This is your chance to build a stable, rewarding career and a wonderful life in the vibrant heart of the United Kingdom.

The Cadbury Story: From a Quaker Shop to a Global Icon

Our story is one of purpose-driven innovation that has spanned over two hundred remarkable years. It began in 1824 when John Cadbury, a young Quaker with a strong social conscience, opened a modest grocer's shop at 93 Bull Street in the bustling centre of Birmingham. He sold hops, mustard, and a special side-line of cocoa and drinking chocolate, which he prepared himself using a pestle and mortar. As a Quaker, he was a firm believer in temperance and saw these warm, nourishing cocoa drinks as a delicious, healthy, and morally sound alternative to the gin and beer that he believed were a major cause of poverty, deprivation, and social decay in the rapidly industrializing cities of Victorian England. His venture was a success, and by 1831, he had moved into manufacturing, renting a small factory in Crooked Lane, Birmingham, to produce his cocoa products on a commercial scale. He received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1854, a testament to the quality of his products.

The business truly began to flourish under the leadership of his sons, Richard and George Cadbury, who took over the struggling company in 1861. Through sheer hard work and innovation, they turned it around. In 1879, they made a revolutionary decision that would change the company and the city of Birmingham forever. Seeking to escape the cramped, polluted, and unhealthy conditions of the inner city, they moved their factory four miles south to a greenfield site between the villages of Stirchley, King's Norton, and Selly Oak. They named the new site Bournville, a combination of Bourn, for the local Bourn Brook river, and ville, the French word for town, inspired by the fashionable confectionery centres of France. This was far more than just a new factory; it was the birth of a revolutionary new way of living and working. George Cadbury was a visionary philanthropist who passionately believed that a happy, healthy, and well-housed workforce was the key to a successful and ethical business. He began building a model village around the factory, with high-quality houses set in large gardens, parks, open spaces, swimming pools, and community facilities, creating an environment where his workers and their families could thrive in body, mind, and spirit. This pioneering approach to social welfare and corporate responsibility set a new and enduring standard for industrial relations in Britain and around the world, and the Bournville Village Trust continues its work to this day.

The 20th century saw a wave of product innovation that cemented Cadbury's place in the nation's heart and made it a global household name. In 1905, the company launched Cadbury Dairy Milk, a chocolate bar with a significantly higher proportion of milk than anything else on the market. It was an instant and overwhelming success and remains our flagship product to this day. This was followed by a stream of iconic creations that have become part of British culture: the Flake in 1920, the Creme Egg in 1923, Roses in 1938, Wispa in 1981, and Twirl in 1987. The company also became famous for its innovative and memorable advertising campaigns, from the iconic glass and a half of milk to the famous Cadbury drumming gorilla advert. In 2010, Cadbury became part of the Mondelez International family, one of the world's largest snacking companies with a portfolio that includes Oreo, Toblerone, Milka, Philadelphia, and Ritz. This partnership has allowed us to invest over 75 million pounds in our Bournville site, securing its future as a world-class centre for chocolate manufacturing and innovation for generations to come. As we look to the future, we are prouder than ever of our Birmingham roots and our enduring legacy of making the world a little sweeter.

To work legally in the UK, you will need a valid work visa. The most common route for skilled workers is the Skilled Worker visa, which requires sponsorship from a UK employer. For certain roles, Cadbury may be able to act as your sponsor. The UK also has other visa categories, including the Youth Mobility Scheme for citizens of certain countries aged 18 to 30, and the Graduate visa for those who have recently completed a degree at a UK university. We recommend that you check the UK Government's official website (gov.uk) for the most up-to-date information on visa requirements and eligibility. Regarding the cost of living in Birmingham, it is significantly more affordable than London. You can expect to pay between 500 and 800 pounds per month for a room in a shared house, and between 800 and 1,200 pounds per month for a one-bedroom flat. Birmingham has an excellent public transport system, including buses, trains, and the Midland Metro tram, making it easy to get around the city without a car. The UK's National Health Service (NHS) provides free healthcare to all residents, which is a significant benefit for those relocating from abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous experience in the food industry? Not necessarily. While experience is valued for some of our more technical and senior roles, many of our positions, particularly in production, warehousing, and site services, are entry-level and we provide full training. What matters most is your attitude, your willingness to learn, and your commitment to quality and safety.

What languages are required? A good working knowledge of English is essential for all roles, as it is needed for understanding safety instructions, communicating with colleagues, and reading work documents. However, we are a diverse and multicultural workplace and we value the language skills that our international employees bring.

Is accommodation provided? Cadbury does not directly provide accommodation. However, Birmingham has a wide range of affordable rental options, and our HR team can provide guidance and resources to help you find suitable housing in the Bournville area and surrounding neighbourhoods.

What are the working hours? Most of our factory roles operate on a shift pattern, which may include early mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends. Office-based roles typically follow standard business hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Cadbury World roles may include weekend and bank holiday working, especially during peak seasons.
