Hansa Shopping Centre: Where History, Culture, and Commerce Converge

Nestled in the historic heart of Turku, right beside the city’s bustling main Market Square, Hansa Shopping Centre (Hansakortteli) is more than just a retail destination—it is a living, breathing part of the city's soul. Established in 1988, Hansa is a unique city block that masterfully blends over 140 shops and services with priceless cultural heritage. We are home to the iconic Stockmann department store and, most notably, the Åbo Svenska Teater, the oldest professional theatre in Finland. This seamless integration of commerce and culture creates an atmosphere unlike any other shopping centre in the Nordic region, attracting 10.5 million visitors and generating over €229 million in sales annually.

Our identity is deeply rooted in the history of Turku, Finland's oldest city. The name "Hansa" itself evokes the legacy of the Hanseatic League, a powerful commercial and defensive confederation that shaped Northern European trade for centuries. Today, we carry that spirit forward by being a central marketplace for ideas, fashion, food, and culture. The architecture of the block, designed by Benito Casagrande, weaves together different eras, creating a labyrinth of discovery where modern retail flagships like Zara and Marimekko exist alongside charming local boutiques and essential city services. We are not just a place to shop; we are a place to experience the vibrant urban life of Turku, to meet, to dine, and to be inspired.

A Dynamic Hub of Retail and Culture

Hansa is a city block dedicated to diversity. Our tenant mix is carefully curated to serve every need and desire, from daily essentials at our grocery stores to luxury fashion at the Stockmann department store. We host a wide array of international brands such as H&M, Gant, and Jack & Jones, as well as beloved Finnish icons. The centre is also a culinary destination, with a rich selection of restaurants and cafés that cater to every taste, from a quick coffee at Arnolds to a full dining experience at one of our many restaurants. Beyond retail, Hansa is a vital service hub, offering banking, pharmacy, medical, and postal services, making it an indispensable part of daily life for the residents of Turku.

What truly sets us apart is our commitment to culture. The presence of the Åbo Svenska Teater within our block is a constant reminder of our unique mission. We actively foster this connection by hosting a year-round calendar of events, including live music performances, fashion shows, art exhibitions, and community gatherings. This cultural programming enriches the visitor experience and strengthens our bond with the city. We are a commercial entity with a cultural heart, a place where the transaction of goods is always accompanied by the exchange of ideas and inspiration.
